10 Amazing Facts about Chief Mark Dunston

I had the pleasure of spending some time with our Police Chief Mark Dunston on Tuesday. It was a very productive meeting and I have no doubt that Chief Dunston will continue leading our police force towards a bright future. Also, he seems like a genuine, kind, decent, cool guy. I really enjoyed speaking with him. Hopefully, I left an equally good impression on Chief Dunston. 

Regardless, as I prepared to meet with Chief Dunston, I did a bit of digging into his background and learned a number of very interesting facts about Chief Dunston that I thought I would share.

1. Chief Dunston has trained over 50,000.00 law enforcement and military personnel across the globe, including China, Brazil and Canada.

2. He was an instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glynco, GA.

3. He wrote a book on gang signs, particularly tattoos and graffiti. I imagine riding through New Orleans with Chief Dunston would be quite the education. You can check out his book on Amazon.com.

4. He was an original member of the training staff with the Mississippi Police Corps at USM that focused on problem solving policing. Speaking with Chief Dunston, it is clear that creative problem solving, professionalism, and continuing education for our local law enforcement are high priorities.

5. He has worked as an expert witness in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Michigan, Delaware, Illinois, Kansas, Nevada, New Jersey, California and Ohio on both the Defendant and Plaintiffs side. Chief Dunston clearly has spent his life learning and teaching the right way to police and is willing to put his money where his mouth is. So much so that he is willing to testify on behalf of folks who are bringing lawsuits against police departments for violations of civil rights as well as fighting for police departments who do things the right way. 

6. He has appeared on Law Enforcement Television Network and numerous television programs.

7. He has published numerous articles on law enforcement, including articles on use of force, officer survival, and vehicular pursuits, which is pretty darn cool.

8. He graduated from the FBI National Academy.

9. He has worked as a director of SWAT in Tupelo, MS, where he was a captain.

10. He has held just about every position a police officer can hold, fro working as a patrolman to working as an undercover narcotics officer.
